Council Requests Business Case from A and P

The City Council has requested the Manawatu West Coast A and P Association prepare a business plan to support its case for relocating its operations to Manfeild Park.

The Council received a deputation from the Manawatu West Coast A and P Association last night and was sympathetic about its ongoing problems in operating its annual show at Arena Manawatu.

In presenting their case for relocating, the deputation explained that the development of Arena Manawatu as a major sporting event centre made it difficult to double as a livestock facility.

Following the meeting Chief Executive, Paul Wylie, commented that any City Council financial contribution towards an upgraded, multi-purpose Manfeild facility is dependent on a business case that demonstrates there will be sufficient cash flow to cover costs.

“This request for ‘numbers to stack up’ was part of the joint Palmerston North City Council and Manawatu District Council’s public consultation over the redevelopment of Manfeild,” Paul Wylie says.

The message is reinforced by Mayor Heather Tanguay who says she looks forward to hearing from the association about the opportunities and initiatives they are taking in attracting commercial sponsorship.

“We acknowledge the difficulties they are facing in continuing to run A and P events at Arena Manawatu and unanimously encourage them to provide a compelling business case that supports their shift to Manfeild,” she says.

“The Council looks forward to holding further discussions in 2005.”
