Customer reception about to open
MANAWATU District Council’s revamped customer services area will open to the public on Monday, August 17, as the first stage in the upgrade of the administration building in Manchester Street, Feilding, nears completion.
The upgrade will improve and extend the building’s air conditioning and lighting components to comply with industry standards, and create a greater open plan environment as many dividing walls are removed.
Economic Development and Projects Officer, Suzanne Craig, said the temporary customer services reception area set up in May on the Makino Aquatic Centre side of the building had worked reasonably well, with additional signage helping redirect people to the centre.
“It’s a smaller space, but we tried to make it as welcoming and as open as possible,” she said, “and we thank members of the public for their understanding of the situation.”
A third of the council’s 60 staff who have been working in the council chamber and committee room relocate to their new working areas, while the remaining employees take their place in the temporary quarters as stage two begins.
Council meetings and workshops will continue in St John Ambulance rooms in Bowen Street, Feilding. The project is expected to be completed by the end of November.
