Massey University’s world ranking will certainly help it attract more students to the city comments Palmerston North’s Mayor.

Heather Tanguay, in responding to Massey’s top international rating in the Times Higher Education Supplement, says the ranking sends a powerful message to students both in New Zealand and overseas.

“Anyone knowing the results will realise that this is a outstanding university that offers an impressive and comprehensive education to students,” she says.

Massey University is ranked 108th in the Times Supplement’s world top 200. Two other New Zealand universities are also evaluated – Auckland is in 67th place and Otago ranks 114th.

“This ‘whole of institution’ rating demonstrates the quality of teaching, research and research training carried out at Massey and, in particular, on the home campus,” Heather Tanguay says.

“We can all feel very proud of the result and I will be conveying my congratulations to Vice-Chancellor, Judith Kinnear, on behalf of the city.

“However the international recognition must be the impetus for ongoing initiatives to attract further students to Massey University and I want to make this one of the priorities of my mayoralty.”

Palmerston North’s Mayor endorses Professor Judith Kinnear’s comments that the Times Higher rankings are a true measure of a university’s ability to fly high internationally.
