NZ Canoeing National Championships, 2005 National White Water Centre of New Zealand, Mangahao SHANNON

Easter weekend marks the first event with the White Water Park fully completed. Athletes from Australia and New Zealand will fight it out over the four days to be crown NZ Champion 2005 in the disciplines of Wild Water Racing, White Water Slalom and Freestyle canoeing.

The complete programme for the Championships is outlined below:

Friday 25th March 2005

1000     Wild Water Classic

1200     Wild Water Sprint Run 1

1300     Wild Water Sprint Run 2

Saturday 26th March 2005

1000     Slalom Qualification Race 1, Run 1

1200     Slalom Qualification Race 1, Run 2

1400     Teams Run 1 (CAT4 and Old School Teams)

1500     Teams Run 2 (CAT4 and Old School Teams)

Sunday 27th March 2005

1100     Slalom Finals Race 1, Run 1 (Top 30 in each category)

1300     Slalom Finals Race 1, Run 2 (Top 10 in each category)

1430     Open Practice on the course – freestyle

Monday 28th March 2005

1100     Freestyle competition qualification rounds

1300     Final rounds

As well as men’s and women’s kayak events there will also be men’s canoe events, both single and double. In the canoe, the athletes are kneeling and only have single bladed paddle.

It is hoped that a large spectator crowd will take advantage of this significant event, the fine summer weather, the newly completed facilities at the park and the onsite hospitality and support the event. Entry is free and families are welcome. Parking is available opposite the Mangaore Residents Association hall and there will be catering available on site.

Local stars and NZ Team members competing during Easter include Heather Jull, Johann Roozenburg, Michael Dawson, Aaron Osbourne and Damien McAuly.
