Residents return home

MANAWATU District Mayor, Ian McKelvie, was on hand to welcome the first residents of Woodlark Flats to return to their homes after they were evacuated on the night of Sunday, February 15, because of rising floodwaters.

Stan and Margaret Manning and Yvonne King were “overwhelmed” at being able to move back into the Manawatu District Council units in Derby Street, Feilding, last Friday.

The Mannings have been staying with their daughter, Lynnair Fleming, at Rongotea - although they had to vacate that property for a week when the floodwaters covered part of the farm - while Mrs King had been “spoilt rotten” at the Denbigh Hotel.

The photograph shows the Mannings (centre) with sons, Gordon, of Sydney (left) and David, of Hobart (back), with daughter Lynnair, and Mrs King and Mr McKelvie.
