Weather and River Status 19 Oct 0930hrs

Manawatu River:
Most off the heavy rain associated with the low over Hawkes Bay has moved away further to the East and out to sea.
River levels in the Upper Manawatu are now falling. The Manawatu at Upper Gorge was at 5.9m at 8.45am this morning.
The Flood Gates at Moutoa were opened at 8.15am this morning after a delay due to a slower that expected rise in river levels in the lower Manawatu.
The next high tide at Foxton Beach is expected at 2.15pm today.
The eroded stop bank at Foxton was monitored overnight and is holding.
Information to hand indicates that all other rivers have started to fall.
Horizons EOC remained open overnight.
Other Issues:
The situation at the stop bank near Foxton is 'stable' but dependant on future river flow and tide cycles. Future tasks include ongoing carting and stockpiling of fill for more permanent repairs in due course - the stockpiling will take several weeks to complete.
Hydrology staff are busy gauging rivers and undertaking inspections of installations.
Horizons EOC will continue to monitor events during the day and a decision about staff requirements will be made this afternoon.
